Not all who live under the Dawnfire sun were born equal in the eyes of the Church or the Nobles. Here are the peoples who call the Imperium home — some embraced, some tolerated, and some still bearing the weight of old chains.
The average Imperial Human is a product of faith, law, and legacy — shaped as much by doctrine and noble decree as by blood and soil. Proud, resilient, deeply hierarchical. There are twelve Nation-States; humans differ by province and patron house.
Sun-kissed or pale complexions from city and field life under the Church’s eye. Hair light brown to golden blond (darker in southern provinces). Straight, disciplined posture. Height 152–183 cm. Modest robes or tunics bearing temple or house symbols.
Eyes: Blue, Brown, Green, Grey. Build: Slender to Muscular.
Daily prayers, feast/fast days, temple at least weekly for spiritual and civic instruction.
Peasants, craftsmen, merchants in walled towns and estates. Clerical magic is holy proof of Aureon’s will. Magi inspire awe and deep distrust unless bound by noble oath and heraldic wards. Unsanctioned spellcasters draw stares — or accusations.
Education limited; most know basic High Imperial script, chants, and proverbs. They know little of the world beyond their province, the names of local lords and priests, and the terror of the Untethered.
The subjugation of the Inferni is the cornerstone upon which the Dawnfire Imperium was built. Long before Aurelian Valcor, the horn-crowned “emberfolk” roamed in caravans, trading exotic metals and fire-forged arms while sometimes raiding. Valcor made the “Inferni Question” his rallying cry. The First Dawnfire Crusade crushed their enclaves; captives were branded with the molten Sigil of Compliance and penned in Ember Quarters as “redemption servants.”
The Church’s Edict of Embers declared them chattel “until the world’s final dusk,” framing bondage as sacrament. Males toiled in furnaces; females and favored males served in households and salons. Lustration Rites “cleansed” them while serving as inventory. Over centuries many earned manumission writs through loyal service — trading the old brand for guild seals and Legion badges.
Elegant and otherworldly. Polished horns, tails often wrapped for decorum. Skin: blue, red, pink, dull orange, black, grey. Pointed ears, horns, optional tail. Ember-warm presence.
Many view the Legion’s disciplined march and noble law as safeguards. They prize reliability and rank.
Most are Empire-born and know no other world. The old Sigil is now mostly voluntary or penitential. Imperial law grants free Inferni citizenship: modest property, petitions, approved guilds. They are praised publicly as “embers honed into blades of dawn.”
Yet prejudice lingers. Commoners mix envy of their craft and beauty with suspicion of “ash-luck” and old demon rumors. Nobles value them as strategic assets in forges and salons.
Living manifestations of divine purpose. Humans touched by Aureon through ritual or direct divine will undergo a profound transformation into semi-divine beings.
Holy markings appear across the skin, glowing softly. Eyes take on a molten golden hue. At higher stages a halo of light and radiant wings manifest.
Revered as living proof of Aureon’s favor. Some serve as inquisitors or crusader leaders; others become wandering holy figures. Their presence inspires awe and absolute obedience.
Beings transformed by the Endless Night. They become living vessels of shadow, desire, and forbidden power.
Skin darkens or becomes translucent with pulsing shadow veins. Twisted wings, black flame eyes, or drifting shrouds of gloom often manifest.
Hunted relentlessly by the Church as abominations. Some hide in plain sight as enigmatic courtiers or cult leaders; others embrace their nature in the shadows.
