Under the Dawnfire Imperium, society is ordered by divine right, noble blood, and service to the Light. Legitimacy flows from Aureon through the Church and the throne.
The pinnacle of Imperial society. Emperors are crowned by the Luminary Throne and rule with Church blessing. Kings govern constituent kingdoms and pay the Sun-Tithe. Dukes control duchies and often host Archons. Power flows downward from Aureon through noble blood and Church sanction.
Border lords and regional governors. Marquesses guard the marches and hold right of Border Justice. Counts oversee counties and mid-sized cities. They maintain garrisons, fund cathedrals, and sit on Twin Tribunals alongside Church judges.
Local lords who manage estates, collect taxes, and lead levies. Many sponsor Lightbringer orders or temples to earn favor. Knighthood is earned through service or purchased through pious donation.
The Church hierarchy (Archons down to Torchbearers) forms a parallel power structure. Commoners — peasants, craftsmen, merchants — form the broad base. They serve the Light through labor and worship, knowing their rung on the ladder.
Most cities maintain parallel courts: a Noble Judge and a Church Judge. Major decisions require approval from both. This system ensures that secular and sacred law remain intertwined.
